Update, Jan.5: Obamacare death panels removed after pro-life backlash.

The euthanasia watchdogs at LifeTree.com released disturbing news Friday that the Sebelius-led HHS is reinstating mandatory end-of-life counseling in the implementation of Obamacare.

After the public outcry last summer about such counselingcalled ‘pulling the plug on granny‘– the offending section was removed.

Smart observers, conservative and liberal, recognize that government single-payer insurance (like that of Canada and the U.K.) will necessarily search for mechanisms to reduce the number of medically-expensive elderly and disabled.

Such is the preoccupation of the Kansas City-based Center for Practical Bioethics [CPB], headed by (more…)

Many are anticipating what can be accomplished in Kansas under a pro-life governor in 2011, and I hope restructuring the State Healing Arts Board is on the list.

We’ve endured seven years of pro-abortion Governor Kathleen Sebelius, not only her abortionist-protecting legislative vetoes, but also her appointees on this Board, who allowed decrepit and woman-injuring abortion clinics to stay in business.

Sebelius’ abortion industry aid also extended to retaining the Board’s corrupt executive director, Larry Buening, the spouse of her long-time personal staffer.

Thousands of post-viability abortions were performed in Wichita –almost all of them on non-Kansans– because Buening protected the medical licenses of Kristin Neuhaus, who made the abortion “referrals,” and of LeRoy Carhart, Susan Robinson, Shelly Sella, and the late George Tiller, who performed the abortions.

Sebelius found a cushy SRS attorney job for Buening to keep his state pension, after the legislature threw him out in 2008. [It was not on account of his abortion ties, but because of a backlog of patient deaths and abuse complaints that lawmakers gave the axe to Buening and his top legal counsel, Mark Stafford.]

Buening’s replacement, Jack Confer, had cleaned up Arizona’s medical board mess, but after a rocky 16-month attempt at rehabilitating the Kansas Board, quit in mid-October. The Board is seeking (more…)

The popular online science and policy digest MercatorNet published Time mag killing grannyopposing editorials on end of life care today.

The pro-rationing piece was authored by bioethicist Summer Johnson, and approved by Kansas Board of Healing Arts member, Myra Christopher, who heads the sophisticated euthanasia movement at the Center for Practical Bioethics in Kansas City, Missouri.

Veteran pro-life nurse, Nancy Valko, detailed a variety of concerns in her outstanding rebuttal.  Valko said she has witnessed how hospital ethics committee discussions have devolved from ‘what is right’ to ‘what is legal’. Valko knows from her work in the trenches, how deeply the health care industry has fallen into a death panel/ utilitarian (more…)

The federal government’s move to take over health care is clearly an unconstitutional power grab.   What is even more alarming– beyond the deeply embedded abortion agenda– is how culture of death agents, including one group from Kansas City, have seized these reforms as opportunities to establish further footholds.

The new, nearly-2,000 page, Pelosi House bill will increase tax funding for Planned Parenthood, IVF, destructive embryonic research and includes (yes, Sarah Palin fans) death panels . The groundwork for the panels comes to us courtesy of, by their own admission,
25 years of
work by the Center for Practical Bioethics.

CPB has shown itself utilitarian, bragging that insurers cite them for lowering health care rates in the KC area.  Translation: less insurance money was used when more patients were convinced they didn’t want (or deserve) life-sustaining care. (more…)
