The youthful “face” of the pro-life movement was on display at the annual Rally for Life Monday at the State capitol in Topeka, organized by Kansans for Life.  Not only was the crowd of approximately 3,000 filled with students, the keynote speaker was the youngest senator ever to serve in the Kansas senate, Sen. Garrett Love (R-Montezuma) –who turned 23 as he began his term last January.

Where did this young Senator get the passion to defend children in the womb? He pointed to the his “little brother” Austin, a 6’5″  local college basketball standout who stood on stage near the podium.  Sen. Love told the crowd, “When Austin was born, he fit in the palm of my Dad’s hand.  Was he fragile? Yes. Extremely.  The most defenseless among us? Yes.  And was he a life that was worth the effort of defending? Of course he was. For my family, that story and those difficult times surrounding Austin’s birth and who Austin is today are all great reminders at both how precious and awesome life is.”

Sen. Love continued, “Most concerning to me was when I learned that that during the time frame between 20-30 weeks gestation, we have more pain receptors per square inch on our body than at any other time in life and that is at the same time that our body’s system of pain suppression is not yet fully operating.  That time frame is when many abortions have been performed in Kansas and also the time frame when my brother was born…. That means babies, at a time that they feel more than at any other point in their life, which we have learned through scientific evidence, are going through the worst kind of pain and our state used to say that was okay.”

This is the kind of appealing advocacy Sen. Love articulated on the Senate floor last April, helping to send the Pain-capable Unborn Child Protection act to the desk of pro-life Governor Sam Brownback, and making Kansas the second state in the nation to secure such pro-life protection.

Sen. Love reminded rally attendants to continue to be the “voice for the voiceless” knowing that, in the words of Thomas Jefferson,“The care of human life and happiness and not their destruction is the first and only legitimate object of good government.”

Gov.Brownback also addressed the crowd, with rounds of applause for other pro-life elected officials in attendance: over 50 state legislators, as well as Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer, Secretary of State Kris Kobach, and State Treasurer Ron Estes.

WASHINGTON —  The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to take up a major pro-life bill — the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (H.R. 3) — on or about Wednesday, May 4, 2011.

National Right to Life urges you to promptly contact your U.S. House representative  to urge him or her to support H.R. 3, and to oppose all amendments that may be offered by opponents of the bill.  Go here for an easy way to send a brief note to our 4 U.S. reps.

Currently, there is a patchwork of different federal laws that restrict federal funding of abortion.  However, many of these restrictions (such as the well-known Hyde Amendment, which applies to the federal Medicaid program) expire every year — which forces the pro-life side to re-fight the same battles in Congress, year after year.

Moreover, in a number of federal programs — notably, some major new programs created by the massive Obama health care law in 2010 — federal subsidies for abortion are currently permissible under law.  H.R. 3 would replace this leaky patchwork with a permanent, government-wide prohibition on federal funding of abortion and federal subsidies for health plans that cover abortion.

The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act is sponsored by Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Congressman Dan Lipinski (D-Il.), the co-chairs of the House Pro-Life Caucus.  Click here for list of co-sponsors of the bill.

KANSAS DEFUNDING ON TRACK
Meanwhile, back in Topeka, the state budget currently contains a provision redirecting Title X federal family planning funds AWAY from Planned Parenthood and to state health clinics.  No women will be without pregnancy-related services, and even better, approximately $300,000 in tax moneys will be augmenting full-service medical care for lower income men and women of all ages–instead of underwriting Planned Parenthood.

Maddow spins failed KS abortionist as victim

According to the Kansas state Board of Healing arts, years of illegal late abortions were performed by George Tiller with Ann Kristin (Kris) Neuhaus as the rubberstamp for those abortions.

At the time of Tiller’s murder, and after Larry Buening was forced to resign as director, the Board was actively engaged in legal actions to remove Tiller’s medical license.  The Board is now– though twice delayed– scheduled to do the same to Neuhaus.

In a show vilifying Phill Kline and pro-life protestors as a whole, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow interviewed the reclusive Neuhaus Wednesday night.

Neuhaus tries on a new image (more…)

This afternoon, the House Federal State Affairs committee passed the Abortion Reporting Accuracy and Parental Rights Act, HB 2035.

Committee members Judith Loganbill (D-Wichita), Sean Gatewood (D-Topeka) and Ponca-We Victors (D-Wichita) voted against passage with 2 other abortion-supporting committee members absent.

The Abortion Reporting Accuracy and Parental Rights Act (HB 2035 content and sponsors here) reflects that parents should be counseling and protecting their underage pregnant daughters, especially in light of yet another undercover expose of Planned Parenthood abortion clinic staff (audio only):

With yet more proof of the outrageous behavior inside clinics toward underage pregnant girls, committee passage of a stronger parental involvement bill was a no-brainer.

An identical bill has been filed in the Senate, SB 146, by Senators Mark Taddiken (R- Clifton) and Terry Bruce (R-Hutchinson). See bill content and Senate co-sponsor list here.

Under HB 2035/SB 146, if minors apply to court to bypass their parents, the judge in the proceeding should

  • use a strong standard of “clear & convincing” evidence;
  • prepare an adequate court record of why the girl is circumventing her parents;
  • be allowed to order counseling for the minor;
  • be required to inform authorities if abuse is suspected.

HB 2035/SB 146, the Abortion Reporting Accuracy and Parental Rights Act, also governs the reporting of late abortions with provisions that were vetoed 3 times by abortion-supporting past governors Kathleen Sebelius and Mark Parkinson.

Lifenews.com reports that the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the nation’s biggest abortion business, is now backtracking on its initial claims that their employees acted appropriately.

Because  the abortion centers ignored potentially illegal activities and did not immediately report them to authorities, PP said Monday it would retrain thousands of staff people across the country in the proper procedures for dealing with sex traffickers in the future. The abortion business also said it would fire any staffers violating those procedures.

Videos from undercover investigations at six PP facilities in three states, so far, have shown their employees

  • helping sex traffickers obtain abortions for the underage girls,
  • guiding them in covering up their activities, and
  • offering insurance -paid services through tax payer funded programs even if the underage girls are not U.S. citizens.

PP staff in New York tell the undercover “pimp” he can pose as a guardian to get discounts for his underage sex workers. The abortion center staff assure him they will  see underage girls as young as 13 who have been victimized by the sex traffickers.

As is the case in the previous videos, the sex ring operator asks specifically about services, including abortion, for underage girls who don’t speak English and who are engaged in “sex work.”

Throughout the footage, Planned Parenthood staff insist that the services and discussions are confidential (more…)

Pregnancy info screwed again

In July,  the Kansas Woman’s Right to Know and See Act went into effect, designed to expand access to sonograms and to provide accurate online information about the protective health effects of delivery over abortion.

Under cover of that mandate, however, the Kansas Health Department (KDHE) took a bold and improper step that no doubt led to a Planned Parenthood champagne toast.

KDHE removed a warning (albeit a weak one) about the abortion-breast cancer (ABC) link that had been part of Kansas’ informed consent materials for 12 years.  The ABC link is

Instead of true information about the ABC link, the KDHE (more…)
