The selection of Abby Johnson, former clinic director for Planned Parenthood, to speak at Kansans for Life’s July 14 Kansas City regional breakfast couldn’t be more timely.
This week, Planned Parenthood has not explained their national accounting discrepancy of $1.6 billion dollars. A recent report from the Government Accountability Office revealed Planned Parenthood spent $657 million in federal funds between 2002 and 2008, while another report showed they took in more than $2 billion in grants and programs during that time.
Scandals don’t seem to deter Planned Parenthood supporters. The nation’s largest abortion business has failed to explain over 2 years of regularly revealed incidents of medical misinformation and illegal counseling in various states’ clinics. Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson has twice strongly funded Planned Parenthood, despite the unresolved 107 criminal charges awaiting PP’s Overland Park facility.
In 2009 and 2010, Parkinson vetoed the same Huelskamp/ Kinzer budget provision that would have bumped Planned Parenthood from consuming over one-third of a million Title X dollars that public health clinics could use. Those Title X federal tax moneys are applied to services including PAP smears and STD testing, and not for abortion directly. But, every penny Planned Parenthood receives feeds its abortion business in one way or another.
According to Abby Johnson, Planned Parenthood uses the Title X-paid services to lure women in minority neighborhoods. Once in their facilities, these women are more easily persuaded to become Planned Parenthood birth-control clients. Then, when the birth control fails, the organization has a built-in minority clientele for abortion, which Johnson says is Planned Parenthood’s big cash cow.
Additionally irritating is to watch as Planned Parenthood affiliates continue to build huge abortion megacenters in minority neighborhoods. Undoubtedly, they expect a veritable tsunami of clients headed their way under Obamacare, which earmarks $11 billion for community health centers.
On May 14, Gallup produced its third consecutive poll showing that most Americans identify themselves as pro-life, and yet they are forced to fund the organization that commits one-third of our nation’s abortions.
Elections have consequences and we are suffering under a historic expansion of abortion funding from the 2008 elections. Please join us at the breakfast with Abby Johnson who’ll inspire you to help pro-life candidates win in the August primary.
