In July, the Kansas Woman’s Right to Know and See Act went into effect, designed to expand access to sonograms and to provide accurate online information about the protective health effects of delivery over abortion.
Under cover of that mandate, however, the Kansas Health Department (KDHE) took a bold and improper step that no doubt led to a Planned Parenthood champagne toast.
KDHE removed a warning (albeit a weak one) about the abortion-breast cancer (ABC) link that had been part of Kansas’ informed consent materials for 12 years. The ABC link is
- supported by 8 medical organizations and
- acknowledged in decades of published international studies .
Instead of true information about the ABC link, the KDHE DVD inserts a stark “no risk of breast cancer” slide on the DVD, with the voice-over stating a National Cancer Institute (NCI) panel indicates there is NO increased risk for breast cancer from abortion or miscarriage.
However, yesterday, a press release from the Coalition on ABC, revealed that Louise Brinton, the researcher who led that very same 2003 NCI panel denying the ABC link, now CONFIRMS it in a paper she quietly co-authored 9 months ago!
The paper lists abortion as a “known and suspected risk factor” posing a 40% additional breast cancer risk, with chemical contraception raising the breast cancer risk 320%!
But NCI did not change their website denial of the ABC link and thus helped KDHE deceive thousands of Kansas women about breast cancer, especially more cancer-vulnerable first-time pregnant teens.
Furthermore, it is a blatant mistake to link abortion and miscarriage in the same sentence regarding breast cancer. Nearly all first trimester miscarriages have NO effect on raising breast cancer risk, while every abortion does.
Partnering with the federal cancer industry and the mainstream media in this failure to alert women to the ABC link is the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Komen raises huge sums of money to fight breast cancer and to fund mammograms. Many of the Komen chapters fund Planned Parenthood— a business which sells breast cancer-causing abortions and birth control.
