Tuesday’s election primaries saw 31 Kansas House races where Kansans for Life’s endorsement or recommendation was in play. Our candidates won about twice as often: 20 wins and 11 losses, with 5 House races decided by less than 250 votes.
And a loss in the primary doesn’t mean the district will have pro-abortion representation, because some of the non-KFL-endorsed winners are pro-life, and many of the general election opponents without primaries, are pro-life. (Our updated general election choices will be posted soon at www.voteprolife.net.)
It’s a nice problem to face– races where both party’s candidates are pro-life! This is a reflection of the increasing number of national polls where majorities of the public self-identify as pro-life.
KFL supported these 10 winning incumbent, pro-life-voting state representatives: Bill Otto (R-9), Forrest Knox (R-13), Mike Burgess (R-51), Joe McLeland (R-94), Phil Hermanson (R-96), Clay Aurand (R-109), Pat Maloney (D-116), Don Hineman (R-118), Jim Morrison (R-121), and Gary Hayzlett (R-122).
KFL supported these 10 challengers who won their primaries: Terry Calloway (R-3), Caryn Tyson (R-4), Terry Lois Gregory (R-10), Kelly Meigs (R-17), Rob Bruchman (R-20), Jana Goodman (R-41), Becky Nioce (R-56), Tom Arpke (R-69), Jim Howell (R-82) and Dan Collins (R-110).
At the state level, these 4 important wins had KFL’s endorsement: the gubernatorial team of Sam Brownback & Jeff Colyer, Secretary of State candidate Kris Kobach, and incumbent state Education Board members John Bacon (dist.3) & Ken Willard (dist.7).
At the federal level, these 2 successful Congressional candidates had KFL’s endorsement: Kansas Sen. Tim Huelskamp (1st Dist) and Mike Pompeo (4th District).
We do not want to overlook the deeply disappointing losses of 7 endorsed candidates yesterday: veteran pro-life House reps John Faber and Melvin Neufeld, insurance challenger David Powell, state senate challenger David Harvey, and, at the federal level, pro-life champions Todd Tiahrt, Dennis Pyle and Patricia Lightner.
We applaud the hard work of all these excellent, pro-life campaigners and their volunteers.

Please give me recommendations for those judges who are on the Kansas ballot. I want only those who are strict constructionists and pro-life.
Hi – thanks so much for your mailer that listed the Pro-Life Voter’s Guide! What was not on there was your suggestions for the judges on the Kansas Appellate court benches. Would you please send those? I’m like Mary and am looking for strict constructionists and pro-life. Thanks!
I am very disappointed in the Kansans for Life voter guide. Finally we have a Republican pro-life candidate for the KS House in Wyandotte County, and you are hurting his base by endorsing (recommending) his Democrat opponent. It is very important that we start having a choice in the local elections of WyCo. In the 16 years we have lived here, there has rarely been a Republican candidate for any local offices. The LEAST KFL could do is mention that BOTH candidates are pro-life. I am not sure of the Democrat’s real commitment to pro-life issues. Why have you denied Eric Hite your endorsement?
