Nebraska would become the first state to outlaw abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy based on medical evidence that babies at that age feel pain.

UPDATE March 30: The bill won 1st round, 38-5.

If Bill 1103 were to pass, it would surely face a court challenge and end up in front of the U.S. Supreme Court, which the National Right to Life Committee would welcome. Pro-lifers wonder,

“Torture is routinely condemned, even when used against our worst enemies in a time of war.   How can society continue to justify the “right” to torture defenseless babies in the womb with the rhetoric that women need abortion for them to be full and equal members of American society?”

Six states — Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Utah — already require that pregnant women be told an abortion could cause pain, but Nebraska would be the first to restrict abortion due to pain.   Anesthesia specialists were scheduled to present medical confirmation of the unborn’s sensitivity to pain.

The Kansas 2010 House schedule of upcoming bills lists a similar prohibition for late abortions done for the mother’s “mental health.” HB 2166 from Rep. Steve Huebert (R-Valley Center) would permit abortions after viability only to save the life (more…)

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) guidelines for “embryo protection in research,” adopted by President Obama– are proving to be as tough as Barney Fife and as worthless as the public comments overwhelmingly indicated they’d be.

NIH definitions can be changed by executive order and now are being “fudged” in order to facilitate embryo harvesting and cloning.  According to stem cell expert David Prentice:

“The NIH guidelines are not ethical, they simply provide a recipe for human embryo destruction so that taxpayers’ funds can be used to reward the scientists.”

The guidelines are being massaged to remove an impediment to human embryonic experimenters, including Harvard’s George Daley.   With Gov. Sebelius’ blessing, the  pro-cloning Kansas City Stowers group, wanted to bring embryonic stem cell & cloning research here and thus heavily lobbied — along with KU– to weaken Kansas’ bio-science laws.

Arms of the Stowers Institute  set up front groups in Kansas and Missouri called ‘Coalitions for Life-Saving Cures’ to mislead the public about the need for destructive stem cell research.

This summer, the Kansas group disbanded and awarded their war chest to lawmakers, probably believing the public doesn’t need propaganda when the embryonic funding is flowing in an Obama administration.  Take note of who received donations in this state report: (more…)

Lifenews.com  reports a tenth undercover video showing a Planned Parenthood abortion center willing to hide child rape.

UPDATE: The CEO of the clinic falsely responds that they were unable to report
the incident.

The video shows staff at a Wisconsin facility counseling a purportedly 14-year-old girl to not divulge how a 31-year-old man impregnated her. The video also shows Planned Parenthood staff coaching the girl on how to obtain an abortion without her parent’s consent — in violation of state law.

KFL Banquet guests in Wichita and Overland Park last weekend heard UCLA student, Lila Rose, president of Live Action Films, discuss how these stings are conducted.  Rose says her organization’s videos reveal a common trend of unethical counseling practices and disregard for the law, such that:

“In case after case, Planned Parenthood acts in contempt of its legal and professional obligations to report child rape.”

The unveiled Obama federal health care proposal will fill the coffers of Planned Parenthood, without any federal investigations into repeated instances of these clinics ignoring state statutory rape laws.

In a  a joint press conference at the Kansas statehouse last spring, Sen. Tim Huelskamp and Rep. Lance Kinzer revealed an audio tape similarly exposing  the Overland Park, Kansas, Planned Parenthood as (more…)

President Obama has unveiled his  “healthcare” proposal –which is more life-threatening than the Christmas-Eve-passed Senate plan– and designed to be rammed through Congress.

Contact your Congressman and Senators in Washington, D.C to kill this legislation, which will allow direct federal funding of elective abortion and restriction of life-sustaining care for the poor and elderly.  Call 1-202-224 (or 225) – 3121. Or put your zip code in at www.nrlc.org and follow directions. (more…)

Late today, pro-lifers sunk A.G. Six’s Robo-Call Privacy Act (SB 456) by a final vote of 13-27 in the Senate.  The bill would have restricted the use of auto-dial calls by non-profit groups, including Kansans for Life.

This is a big win, especially since A.G. Six put out a big press push yesterday (see his website).

Kansans for Life opposed SB 456, warning that the bill exempted arbitrary entities and hampered free speech.  Kansas already has a Do-Not-Call law, which applies to unwanted business calls.

Sen. Terry Bruce (R-Hutchinson) carried the opposition to SB 456, and warned that it violated Constitutionally-protected free speech with severe financial penalties.

Sen. Karin Brownlee (R-Olathe) and Sen. Dick Kelsey (R-Goddard) warned about the chilling effect the bill would have on various charities.

Before the vote, Sen. Tim Huelskamp (R-Fowler) secured an amendment to exempt political speech, which is really the target of such bills.

Senators who voted to protect free speech (more…)

The Kansas Senate judiciary committee has passed 2 bills that will hurt the pro-life cause: one (SB 456) restricting  free speech and the other (SB 468) aimed at preventing citizen-petitioned grand juries.  Both bills deserve the axe, so contact your Senator quickly as the bills are on the fast track for Senate action.

UPDATE: Senators Tim Huelskamp, Dick Kelsey and Mary Pilcher-Cook helped stave off adoption of SB 468 this afternoon and it has been sent to committee, possibly til next week.  SB 456 is still slated for debate tomorrow, Friday, Feb.19.  Keep those contacts coming, Senate offices can be reached at 1-800-432-3924.

SB 456  is a clear attempt to silence KFL in the upcoming elections by eliminating our ability to use auto-dialed phone calls.  (more…)

NARAL Pro-Choice America’s annual review gives a “D” grade to the United States for enacting 29 pro-life laws in 2009 and only 21 pro choice laws.  According to the report’s analysis of governors and state legislators, states are pro-life by a 2 to 1 margin.

The review gives Kansas a D- rating, labeling the House as “anti-choice,” Gov. Mark Parkinson as “pro-choice,” and the Senate as “mixed choice.”

Although the report blamed (more…)

Lila Rose of LiveAction Films at KFL Banquet

On Thur. Feb. 11, 2010, 21-year-old UCLA student Lila Rose enthralled over 1100 KFL banquet guests in Overland Park with details of her undercover video investigation of Planned Parenthood abortion sites.

Rose is pleased that Alabama health officials placed a clinic she investigated on probation for covering up cases of sexual abuse and violating the state’s parental consent law on abortion.  UPDATE: more violations discovered.

“The Health Department report documents the same malpractice that we have found in state after state,” Rose said.  The Alabama tape was released last year. Reviewing clinic (more…)

Today, the Kansas House Insurance committee heard testimony on a bill, HB 2564, to remove abortion from standard inclusion in all health care policies, except when necessary to preserve the life of the mother or in the case of rape or incest involving a minor and reported to a law enforcement agency. There is an escalating national attack on free pregnancy care centers through legislation requiring they immediately inform visitors of  services they do NOT perform. We have not yet seen any such bills filed at our Statehouse this session.

Abortion supporters claim that pro-life maternity centers use ‘deceptive advertising,’ such as the billboard/ bumper sticker shown.  Without even one citizen complaint of deceit or disservice,  Baltimore enacted a bill that fines pregnancy centers $150 per day if they don’t post a sign saying they don’t provide abortions! UPDATE March 30: Baltimore diocese sues biased pregnancy center law. (more…)
